Final ranking for SSL Gold Cup Matchboard is out!

As only 240 days are left until the biggest Battle of Nations in sailing history, the SSL Gold Cup 2026, like the “Football World Cup but in Sailing”, we are announcing the official matchboard. From 18 November to 13 December 2026, the top 40 nations from five continents will go head-to-head for claiming the title of SSL Nations World Champion. The SSL Gold Cup finals venue will be the same as during the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with organizational support from Visit Rio and Confederação Brasileira de Vela.

The road to the SSL Gold Cup began with the Global Ranking, which determined the first wave of qualified teams. Based on those rankings and points, 29 nations have now been settled in the matchboard, outlining the path they’ll start the SSL Gold Cup finals. The top seven teams from the Global Nation Ranking: Great Britain, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Australia, and the United States, are joining Brazil, the host nation, directly at the quarterfinals (7-10 Dec 2026).

The spots still up for grabs will be decided through continental qualifiers. In the Asian Qualifiers in December 2025, the SSL Team Oman and the SSL Team Philippines won the battles for the gold tickets. Now, we are ahead of three more qualifiers, with nine spots in the SSL Gold Cup 2026 in Rio de Janeiro at stake.
