Together with his Riptide Racing team, he lifted the trophy and donned the famous crimson blazer after defeating five-time Congressional Cup winner, SSL Team Great Britain skipper Ian Williams 3-1 in the final.

All four of the semi-finalists are SSL Team helmsmen.

In the final Poole took the first race win, with Williams instantly responding to take the second, but the American went on to win the next two races, sealing the title win.

After winning Poole said: « It’s an incredible feeling. It would be impossible without my team. We didn’t start the week the way we wanted to, but once we started sailing like we did last year, we were pretty confident it was going to be ours to win.

« It was a really close battle. Ian is a phenomenal competitor, so we knew it was going to be a big fight. We were up to the challenge and my guys were ready to go. »

SSL Team Switzerland Skipper Eric Monnin completed the podium after defeating SSL Team New Zealand helmsman Nick Egnot-Johnson in the Petit-Final 2-0.

Monnin was clearly hungry for more: « We started with a close match against Poole. We thought we could get that race, but in the end he was just better than us, we were a bit disappointed. In the petit final we really stepped up and had two good races with Nick Egnot-Johnson. We played our boat-speed and crew work. We have to come back here and go into the finals and hopefully win the Crimson Blazer. »
